Throughout the month of August the former Polo Fiorentino museums offer plenty of opportunities to visit which are additional to the normal daily opening of each museum, method and schedule and is found on the website www.polomuseale.firenze.it. The following section summarizes the extensions of time, the current exhibitions, proposals for tours and news not to be missed in this August.

Extensions of time and special openings

Until September 29, every Tuesday the Uffizi Gallery and the Accademia Gallery are open, with a lunch break, up to 22 hours with an entrance fee; Reservations at number 055-294883.

Also on Saturday, up to 19 December 2015, the Uffizi and the Accademia Gallery can be visited (always for a fee and with the possibility of booking) up to 23 hours, while the extraordinary opening of the National Museum of the Bargello (from 19 to 23 ) it is provided during all Saturdays from August.

From 19 August 2015 al 4 September 2015 in the Museum of Palazzo Davanzati you can visit during normal working hours of opening only the ground floor – (the entrance loggia, the courtyard and the exhibition “The sun at home. Daily life in Italian folk pottery from the sixteenth to twenty-first century) – and the first floor. Therefore they will be closed to the public on the second and third floors. However, until October 9, 2015, every Friday the museum will extend the opening hours until 18:50 and in the afternoon on Friday, including the aforementioned period from 19 August to 4 September 2015, you’ll have access to the second and third floors with guided visits at 15:30, 16:30 and 17:30 Free by reservation, contacting directly the museum or by phone at 055/2388610 or by e-mail to the following email address: museo.davanzati@polomuseale.firenze .com.

Of note, too, that on 23 and 30 August, from 8 to 14 with free admission, will open the Garden of the Villa Medici at Castello.

Current exhibitions
There are many current exhibitions in major museums of the former Polo continuing during the month of August. Four belong to the program of temporary exhibitions, “A Year in Art” (with entrance fee and reservation is optional at number 055-294883 Museums of Florence): until 11 October, the Accademia Gallery hosts “The Art of Francis. Masterpieces of Italian art and lands of Asia from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century “; always until 11 October, the Museo degli Argenti in Palazzo Pitti offer the opportunity to attend the exhibition “Lapis Lazuli. Guided tours

Throughout the month of August are scheduled several guided tours to areas of Vasari’s complex Uffizi and the current exhibition in the Gallery.

Until August 12, every Wednesday the hotel organizes free guided tours of the collection Contini Bonacossi Uffizi are two visits per day: a morning session in the turn at 11, the other in the afternoon at 15. In this case there are four visits: two in the morning session and two round in the afternoon session. The meeting place for visitors is set at 10.15 and 11.30 am; and at 14.15 and 15.30 pm. Bookings can be made from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 12 noon at 055-2388693. The visit includes a maximum of 15 participants at a time; everyone is recommended to show up with small bags and no umbrellas.

Until August 28, guided tours are held every Friday (free, but access with valid tickets to the Uffizi Gallery), the exhibition “Piero di Cosimo (1462 to 1522) – Painter ‘Florentine’ eccentric between the Renaissance and Mannerism” the main floor of the Uffizi Gallery. For the exhibition there will be two rounds-meridian (at 10:30 am and at 11 am) and two afternoon (at 14.30 and 15.30). Reservations to the free guided tours take place from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 12 noon at 055-2388693; book a guided tour, which provides up to a maximum of 15 participants at a time, it will not be assessed as priority access to the museum. Reservations to the Uffizi exhibition are made by calling 055-294883 Florence Museums.

The latest news

Among the many new things to do in the various museums former Polo, be noted that in the inner courtyard of the Accademia Gallery is visible Hero, personal interpretation of Michelangelo’s David by the architect and designer Antonio Pio Saracino, pugliese of origin but for more than a decade living and working in New York.

In the Uffizi Gallery, the works of Botticelli (and the great Portinari Triptych by Hugo van der Goes) until next spring are visible in Room 41, which is accessed from Third Corridor, while in the Hall 65, the Plan nobile Vasari , until December you can admire the allegorical portrait of Dante Alighieri, the work of Bronzino.
