Panopticon, privacy and freedom

Poggio Pratelli

Le Murate Progetti Arte Contemporane inaugurates residencies for 2016 a young international artist, and an author on the chosen territory.

Panopticon is the title of the installation of Anna Katharina Loidl, researcher and conceptual artist, who since 2009 creates installations and site-specific projects. Chosen by the jury among a hundred candidates, for the high quality of the proposed project, relevant to the purposes of the notice and the specificity of the place.

The site-specific installation artist, open until February 6, 2016, it is the result of reflection on an area historically characterized as that of the former male prison and on the concept of the Panopticon: design ideal prison designed in 1791 by the philosopher and jurist Jeremy Bentham and architecture in which a single supervisor is allowed to observe a central tower all detainees without them to know if at that time you are or not under the eyes of the prison warden.

Project realized with the support of the Tuscany Region and the Centre for Contemporary Art Luigi Pecci in the regional project “Contemporary Shipyard Tuscany”.
